Coaching the Set Piece with Nathan Smith

For our latest Inspiring Dialogue we take a look at the set piece, scrum and lineout, with Level 4 Coach Nathan Smith. Nathan is currently the Forwards Coach to Doncaster Knights who have just finished a successful season in the English Championship. Nathan shares his coaching philosophy and approach to coaching the set piece. And for Nathan it's all about keeping things simple! The set piece is an organised weapon with '8 people together doing their job' and much more than a means of restarting the game. For Nathan rugby is all about possession and having a simple, clear and effective set piece is vital to retaining and regaining possession. Nathan looks at some key principles in coaching the set piece, the importance of process over outcome, how players learn and shares some tips and common pitfalls for coaches to avoid.
